After the establishment of Xiaguan Tea Factory, in September, 1951, all the tea plants under China Tea Corporation were required to use the unified trademark, Zhongcha (Chinese Tea), which had been used until 1990. Since the unified trademark was not conducive to product identification by domestic and foreign businessmen, in November, 1991, Baoyan, the traditional trademark of Xiaguan Tea Factory, was officially in use again; and in March, 1992, Songhe (logo), the registered trademark, was also officially in use. Up to now, Xiaguan Tuocha Tea (Group) Co., Ltd owns 36 registered trademarks, including Baoyan, Songhe (logo), Cang’er (Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake), Qizi (Seven Cakes), Xiaguan, Sideng (Sideng Ancient Bazaar), etc. Baoyan, Songhe (logo) and Xiaguan are famous brands of Yunnan.
Bao yan:
Baoyan (Lucky Flame) was the trademark once used by Kangzang Tea Factory for the compressed Bingcha (cake-shaped tea) until early 1950s. And then, in September, 1951, as required by China Tea Corporation, all the state-owned tea plants, including Xiaguan Tea Factory, were informed to start using the unified trademark, Zhongcha (Chinese Tea), which had been used until 1990. Since tea products produced by the tea plants all over the country were of various types and quality levels, using a single unified trademark for all tea products was not conductive to the identification of tea products by both domestic and overseas traders. For this reason, China Tea Corporation informed all the tea plants to stop using the trademark, Zhongcha. Afterwards, Xiaguan Tea Factory filed an application for the re-use of Baoyan trademark, which was approved by the State Industry and Commerce Administration, and the trademark was officially in use again on 30 November, 1991. The register number of the trademark is 535357. Baoyan trademark can also be used for normal Bingcha (cake-shaped tea) and Fangcha (square-shaped tea).
Notes on the pictorial trademark of Baoyan: the pictorial trademark consists of 3 parts in 3 colours, red, yellow and black. Part 1 is a golden-treasure-tripod-shaped incense burner in yellowish golden brown with black crispening. Part 2 is four peach-shaped gold ingots in the incense burner which symbolize Gongcha (tea for tribute). And part 3 is burning flames in the incense burner which symbolizes the glory of Buddha and is therefore in red. The mighty flames vigorously burning on the gold ingots in the golden tripod signify that Buddha’s glory illuminates and brings good fortune to all.
