According to the records
made in the book “Fields of Tea” written by Yu Huai in the Qing
dynasty: “On the mountain slope where Gantong Temple is built grows
tea that smells sweet and fragrant, looks slim and white”. In ancient
times “Gantong Tea” served as a tea of tribute but its manufacturing
process was lost in the past. Afterwards the Xiaguan Tea Factory,
digging in the ancient books, has re-developed this kind of tea
on the basis of historical records. The product is made of ready-to-burst
two-leaf buds picked before the Qingming Festival from the tea plants
in the vicinity of Gantong Temple situated in the Diancangshan Mountains.
The tea takes the shape of a curl, looks dark green with distinctive
shinny down, smells lastingly fragrant, tastes mellow and sweet
in aftertaste, and its liquor appears bright green. In 1992 the
tea won the Golden Flower Award of the Dali Prefecture, and in the
same year it was approved as a famous tea of the Yunnan Province.
Thus it is regarded as a high-grade gift for friends.
